Step 7: Verify & File

Generate GSTR-3B summary. Cross-check all figures. File with DSC or EVC. Payment can be made through electronic cash ledger or credit ledger.

Best Practice
File GSTR-3B by the 18th of each month (not 20th) to avoid last-minute portal issues. Also, ensure your electronic cash/credit ledger has sufficient balance before filing to avoid payment failures.

ITC Utilization Rules (Order of Set-Off)

  1. IGST credit: First utilized against IGST liability, then CGST, then SGST
  2. CGST credit: Utilized against CGST liability, then IGST (NOT SGST)
  3. SGST credit: Utilized against SGST liability, then IGST (NOT CGST)

Important: CGST credit cannot be set off against SGST liability and vice versa. Only IGST credit can be used across all taxes.

QRMP Scheme Payment (IFF + Monthly Payment)

If you are under the QRMP scheme:

Common GSTR-3B Filing Errors

  1. ITC claimed beyond GSTR-2B: Restricted under Rule 36(4). Always match with 2B first.
  2. Wrong tax rates: Verify applicable GST rates for each product/service category.
  3. Missing reverse charge: Report RCM supplies in Table 3.1(d) and claim ITC in Table 4(A)(3).
  4. Credit note not netted: Credit notes must reduce outward supply values in Table 3.1.
  5. Cash ledger shortfall: Ensure sufficient balance. Failed payment = late fee + interest.
